ONE FOR THE ROAD

First performance

ONE FOR THE ROAD is a community-led project exploring the people and stories you might find right here on your road in Tameside.  Set within the historic surroundings of the Market Hall, the show celebrates both the building’s architectural heritage and the vibrant voices of the community today.

ONE FOR THE ROAD is not an ending, but a moment of gathering – a concluding act before the next journey begins.

This was a highlight of my work recently.
13 community members wrote their own monologues around the themes of Jim Cartwright’s ‘Road‘. These were then developed with the brilliant Dan Lovatt.
We then recorded all these monologues and I had the privilege of create a binaural theatre piece with their work.
Directed by Emma Baggott, the binaural walk took the audience around the space to watch the community company silently perform their monologues. This was also interspersed with live community dialogue between the whole company.
With two performances, each of 100 people in headphones that was a challenge I revelled in. What a joy.
